New Years Resolution

That dreaded phrase, 'New Year's Resolution'.  When we hear this, we are almost always expected to make one.  But what does it mean?  To give up smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling, etc. To start a diet, to do more exercise, to go to bed earlier.

All these are superficial and usually don't last too long either and are not truly life-changing for people.

What we really mean about promising to change that has any value is that of our character.
We have all been unkind, bad-tempered, impatient, judgemental, frustrated, intolerant, etc. This is a much more difficult thing to do and the majority of people don't stick to what they promise.  Little do they know that when a promise is made, it has to be fulfilled sooner or later.  Best not to make a promise then if we don't mean it.

We say I'm not going to get angry anymore.  But as soon as someone takes longer than they think they should, what happens?  Voices are raised and the temper is lost.

We are waiting for the bus and it's late, where is our patience as we start complaining to those around.

Judging other people is one of the worst things.  We all come to earth to put our wrongs right, so we should never judge someone else.

Oh, look how fat Mrs Brown is now!  How scruffy Ann's husband is.  I could go on and on.  Simple words, but very cruel words that could hurt if heard.
We darken the atmosphere every time we use a bad feeling.  Not only can it hurt others but it can also eventually come back to us, having been used several times and becoming more powerful when returning to the self.
It's far easier to stay in that comfortable rut than to do something about it!!!

But our future life depends on what we do in this life.  We can only build a bright future by making this one bright now!!!!
