I can't sleep!
So many people might say, or think, "I don't know why, but I couldn't sleep last night."
Does it happen to you to have that problem? If yes, don't look any further. We know some people might have this problem because of a health problem, but we are not here to talk about that, as this would have to be a talk with a doctor. What we can say, however, is before looking any further and worrying about one's health, we can easily figure out the problem, and that is by simply questioning ourselves. Most of this problem isn't physical, it is actually the mind.
How was my day? Am I worrying about something or someone? Sometimes we are not even aware we are worrying. Worries can come with different shape or from different reasons. We often create conditions ourselves that cause anxiety. No matter what it is, it stops us from sleeping well or completely. When we are anxious or worried, we lose our peace.
In our more modern time, however, there are more and more reasons than ever before, why we have this problem. Stress from conditions in our job, which many create the stress by thinking too much about their job, becoming very strong in the mind. Even if we have a problem in or with our job, we have to learn to disconnect at the end of the day. Learning to be quiet will always bring the needed help that the worry cannot do.
These days, with "social media" sites, there are a lot of people who are spending too much time or energy in that. We don't realise that our mind can be so impressed by what we do, hear or say, and that can affect us in our daily life as well as the night. Just like desires, when so much energy and mind is involved in it, it begins to take so much space in thoughts in the brain that the mind gets affected, in other words, those thoughts begin to be powerful and become printed in the mind. The mind is very powerful, once something is strong in the mind, it will start ruling our life. It starts by occupying our thoughts, even when we try not to. Did it ever happen that while doing something that has to be done, like in one's job for example, we have difficulty to stop thinking about something in particular, which we can't wait to go back home to do or continue in what we are involved and love to do? The thought keeps coming back no matter how much we try to stop it. We can become distracted from what we're doing, which might need all our attention. We are divided in our mind, doing our job but thinking about something else. As a result, an accident can occur, or the result might not be right, and it has to be done again.
Keeping thinking about something because we try to solve a problem, in our mind, in thought while away from it, and because we can't wait till tomorrow to be in front of the problem to solve it, as a result we can go round and round in thought and maybe never solving it until we are in front of it physically. So all that time is wasted and what we really needed to do at home ends up being neglected. That also means neglecting the relation with people around, like a spouse, children, etc., or something we said we would do. All that can cause a problem of anxiety and not being able to sleep properly.
What do we do in the evening? We should always prepare the self for the bedtime. It sounds, for some people, a bit exaggerated maybe, or even thinking "that is for the weak ones", but I would say, "prove it to your own self, it is for your own benefit, and you'll lose nothing, only gain".
Here we go, preparing the night means making sure we don't impress the mind. What does impress the mind? Watching a film that disturbs the self, can make the self turning this way, and that way and never finding the comfort needed to fall as sleep, or simply waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. Even having nightmares.
Something that a lot of people do these days, even more concerning younger generations, is spending too much time texting or chatting on social media. That keeps, again, the brain very busy and it becomes so powerful that it transforms it as a habit that we can't do without and is difficult to get rid of. That means it is recorded (or printed if you prefer) in the mind. The worst thing to do before bed, is precisely being on social media or even worse like some do, it is while one is ready in bed before falling asleep. Giving one's opinion on this and that, arguing with somebody, gossiping, anything like that is our enemy for the night. A big argument will leave traces in the mind. Because of resentment, we can start thinking, "I'll tell them this or that". And feeling hurt, we might be thinking, "Why did they say that about me?" It is like keeping a permanent connection with all these people even when away from the media, and we are stuck with it, always thinking what was said and what I will answer.
Now why is all this happening, and why like this? Did you know the mind is not of or in the brain, but that the brain is part of it? When we go to bed, it is only the physical body with its brain that rests, sleeping in the bed. What we should know is we have an inner part, this part leaves the physical body and goes to a plane of life that is not of matter. This inner part is the subconscious mind and it is the part that contains all the feelings that we recorded (printed) in. And the trip is natural and exactly in a place similar to our own feelings. Our feelings just before bed become the strongest, as well as those that are of habits. Just imagine, all that which we've been mentioning earlier in this blog would take us to a place where we continue doing the same, instead of going to a peaceful place where the inner self has the chance to regenerate because all what we've been talking about before means we lose our peace of mind so at night we can't find it as we haven't got it. We can only find what we build up during our day time. It is also why we wake up in the morning tired despite we slept.
That's why we can't sleep.
I hope this can help some of you.
